A study authored by a team of experts from the Guangxi Forestry Research Institute has led to the discovery of a new species of cherry blossom in a wetland park in Quanzhou county, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

The new species of Rosaceae has been named Prunus quanzhouensis. The study has been published in the journal Phytotaxa.
