- form-fitting adj. (of clothing) fitting someone's body closely(衣服)非常合身的
- off-the-shoulder 露肩的
- Jean Paul Gaultier

At first, her form-fitting, off-the-shoulder Jean Paul Gaultier gown – designed by the Colombian-born French designer Haider Ackermann – looked like a simple black dress. But when Blanchett moved, cameras captured the back of the dress, which appeared white. When she lifted her hem, they captured its green inner lining, too. Against the red carpet, Blanchett appeared to be a walking tribute to the Palestinian flag.
It wouldn't be out of character for the Australian actress. Last November, amid a flurry of silencing of Hollywood figures who spoke out against the atrocities of Israel's war on Gaza, Blanchett called for a ceasefire and support of refugees at the European parliament.
- in character, out of character typical/not typical of a person’s character

- refugee n. a person who has been forced to leave their country or home, because there is a war or for political, religious or social reasons
- cost n. [uncountable, singular] the effort, loss or damage that is involved in order to do or achieve something(为做某事涉及的)努力,代价,损失
- pundit n. a person who knows a lot about a particular subject and who often talks about it in public行家;权威;专家

- 最早的 original adj. [only before noun] existing at the beginning of a particular period, process or activity
- player n. an actor 演员
Blanchett was also one of the original Hollywood players who signed Artists4Ceasefire’s open letter to Joe Biden calling for an end to the war.
“I am not from Israel or Palestine. I am not a politician. I am not even a pundit,” she said. “But I am a witness, and having witnessed the human cost of war, violence and persecution visiting refugees from across the globe, I cannot look away.”
- subtlety n. subtle adj. (of a person or their behaviour人或行为 ) behaving in a clever way, and using indirect methods, in order to achieve something 机智的;机巧的;狡猾的

“When I grow up I want to become Cate Blanchett, and have the subtlety to think the carpet is already red, so I can just wear a black & white dress with green lining to make such a strong point,” Dr Zahira Jaser, an associate professor at the University of Sussex Business School who is of Palestinian descent, wrote on X.
- reminiscent adj. reminiscent of somebody/something reminding you of somebody/something
- intifada n.
- story In this sentence, "story" refers to the narrative or account of events and experiences, particularly those related to personal or collective experiences, struggles, or challenges. That is, the women in the first intifada used their bodies as a means of expression and struggle(参考于国内 gpt 网站,如有不对,请指出)
“Even just in the way Blanchett holds the train, with the pinch of her finger, she makes her message clear,” she continued.
“Blanchett’s dress is reminiscent of this approach that Palestinian women took during the first intifada,” Ghnaim said. “Palestinian women were using their bodies to express their story, and this dress reminds me of that.
- train n. the part of a long formal dress that spreads out on the floor behind the person wearing it
To pinch is to sharply squeeze or grip with your fingers. No matter how much you love your grandma, you probably don't enjoy it when she pinches your cheek and tells you how tall you've gotten 捏;拧;掐
- solidarity n. support by one person or group of people for another because they share feelings, opinions, aims, etc.
Beautiful, subtle, yet such a powerful action. We should keep reminding and remembering that the Plestinans are still suffering; they are still going through a genocide and this didn't end just because other celebrities still keep ignoring it. We will never forget who were on the right side of history all along and who never stopped talking about this injustice.
Love to all who are standing up for the right cause.
Wow! That is a really smart way to show solidarity through fashion.
- genocide n. the murder of a whole race or group of people种族灭绝;大屠杀
- all along all the time; from the beginning
- 为不公正之事奔走呼号 never stop talking about the injustice
